The year is almost out but not without our latest Motoring Insider. Here’s a round-up of motoring and transport news from the last few months – an almost all-electric special!

2020 Subaru Levorg

The 2020 model year of Subaru’s turbocharged, sports wagon, the Levorg 2.0GT-S has arrived in NZ. The successor to the Legacy GTB wagon, the Levorg is all-wheel drive, produces 197 Kilowatts of power at 5,600 rpm and 350 Newton metres of torque from 2400-5200 rpm.

The new 2020 Levorg is now available at authorised Subaru dealerships nationwide.

Price: From $57,990

MG ZS EV

Branded as a ‘family-friendly electric car’ the new 5-seat MG ZS EV has a driving range of up to 262kms from a single charge on the WLTP combined cycle. It consumes 19.3 kWh/100km and has a charge time of 36 minutes.

Price: The SUV arrives from mid-2020 and launch pricing will be announced nearer the time. The first 50 were sold at a special price of $49,990.

MINI John Cooper Works GP

The fastest ever MINI is set to arrive in New Zealand mid-2020. The limited-edition third-generation John Cooper Works GP has already sold out in New Zealand with just five of the total 3,000 produced globally arriving next year.

Launching from $73,900 the 225 kW four-cylinder turbocharged engine accelerates from zero to 100km/h in 5.2 seconds.

There are several new Ford vehicles being launched in the New Zealand market next year, including:

Transit Custom / Tourneo

The two plug-in hybrid vehicles will be arriving in New Zealand mid-2020, the Transit Custom van and Tourneo Titanium 8-seat people-mover.

The Custom van has a 56km zero-emission driving range, and 500km total range using a 1-litre EcoBoost petrol engine and has a tow capacity of 1,130kg.

The Tourneo Titanium is an eight-seat people-mover and uses the same powertrain technology, delivering 3.1 l/100 km fuel efficiency, 70 g/km CO2.

Everest Sport

The Ford Everest Sport 4WD will join the line-up for MY2020. The 7-seat off-roader comes standard with Ford’s Bi-Turbo, 10-speed automatic, 157kW/500Nm, and braked towing capacity of 3,100kg.

Price: Arriving in New Zealand in January, the Sport 4WD Bi-Turbo 10-speed Auto is available from $73,990.

Ford Ranger FX4 Bi-turbo

The Ford Ranger FX4 Bi-Turbo Special Edition will also be offered as part of the MY2020 Ford Ranger line-up arriving in New Zealand from this December. The Ranger FX4 Bi-Turbo sits between the Ranger XLT and Ranger Wildtrak models.

The 2.0-litre Bi-Turbo, 10-speed powertrain is standard on either the 4WD or 2WD. It has 157kW/500Nm and a max towing capacity of 3,500Kg braked. Fuel efficiency: 6.7 litres/100km combined for the 2WD and 7.4 litres/100km combined on the 4WD.

Mustang Mach-E – not yet confirmed for NZ

Ford’s first EV Mustang the Mach-E has already sold out in the US following is debut on November 18 but yet to be confirmed for New Zealand.

The Mach-E has an estimated range between 353km (219 miles) and 483km (300 miles), produces up to 332 horsepower and 565 Nm torque. The GT model reaches 459 hp and 830 Nm torque.

Price: Mach-E starts from US$44,995 to $61,600 for the GT version.

Kia Seltos

The Kia Seltos is now available from New Zealand dealerships. The Seltos range starts with the standard model the LX, then the LX Plus, the Seltos EX, Limited and Limited AWD.

The front-wheel-drive Seltos features a 2L MPi petrol engine, 6.8L to 100km, blind-spot detection, rear cross-traffic alert, camera, and parking sensors, emergency braking and lane departure warning system.

Prices start from an introductory price of $25,990 + ORC*

Tesla Cybertruck

It’s currently the most talked-about pick-up truck for its infamous demo with Elon Musk (watch here if you missed it) but window-smashing aside, the Cybertruck is Tesla’s first truck and will come in three versions, 250 miles (402kms), 300 miles (483kms) and 500 miles (805 miles) of range.

The 6-seat truck is made of 30X stainless steel, has a towing capacity of 1,588kgs, and can reach 97km/h (60mph).

Price: according to reports, the Cybertruck will be available in 2021 from $39,900.
