Zero emission battery electric trucks hit the road in Christchurch

August 1, 2022

A council-led initiative has led to the delivery of nine zero-emission battery electric trucks hitting the road in Canterbury. The Fuso eCanter trucks are aimed at reducing greenhouse emissions in the area – helping CCC achieve its goal of halving the greenhouse gas emissions by 2030. Kevin Crutchley the Council Resource Efficiency Manager states, “with transport making up the majority of our district’s emissions it’s critical that we find a path towards zero exhaust emission trucks, in addition to battery electric passenger cars.”

Out of the nine total companies involved in the scheme there are five based in the civil construction and maintenance sectors and a further four transport specific companies. The list includes: Citycare Property, Fulton Hogan, HEB Construction, Higgins Contractors, Isaac Construction, Bidfood, Halls, PBT and Toll NZ. Each company leases the trucks through TR Group and will be assessed on how they use the vehicle for everyday operations in a bid to make this technology a more energy-efficient alternative to diesel run vehicles.
